The Sherrard Tigers will head out on the road to square off against the Riverdale Rams at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Sherrard is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8 runs per game this season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Tigers on Saturday. Sherrard fell just short of Princeton by a score of 9-8. Sherrard has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Harrison Curry was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-5 with four stolen bases, four runs, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times he's played. Eli Matson was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.
While Riverdale didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-17), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Kewanee on Friday. Considering the Rams have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Blake Sutton was a major factor no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Sutton was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run. He also brought in an RBI, marking his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Jackson Fritch looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
Back at the plate, Riverdale let Ben Porter and Jack Wages run wild. Porter went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Wages went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those two stolen bases gave Wages a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Austin Nadolson, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Riverdale always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Kewanee only posted an OBP of .118.
Riverdale has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.4 runs over those games. As for Sherrard, their loss dropped their record down to 3-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Sherrard has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Riverdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Sherrard got the 'W' when the teams last played back in May of 2025 against Riverdale by a conclusive 16-8 score. Will the Tigers repeat their success, or do the Rams have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
