The Smethport Hubbers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their fourth straight defeat. They fell 42-33 to Oswayo Valley. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Smethport in their matchups with Oswayo Valley: they've now lost four in a row.
Smethport's loss came despite strong showings from Elizabeth Hungiville and Jaidyn Goodman. Hungiville dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds, while Goodman dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds. Hungiville is crushing the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Madelyn McKean, who scored six points.
Even though they lost, Smethport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. This was only their 12th loss (out of 15 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Smethport has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season. As for Oswayo Valley, they pushed their record up to 10-5 with that victory, which was their third straight at home.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smethport will take on Kane at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oswayo Valley, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Cameron County at 6:00 p.m. on February 12th. Oswayo Valley's defense has only allowed 28 points per game this season, so Cameron County's offense will have their work cut out for them.
