New Castle is 0-10 against Blackhawk since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The two teams will face off at 2:00 p.m. on December 28th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. New Castle is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
Last Friday, New Castle was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 37-33 to Hopewell. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for New Castle in their matchups with Hopewell: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Blackhawk unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Thursday. They fell just short of Kennedy Catholic by a score of 37-35. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Blackhawk came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Kennedy Catholic is ranked 213th).
Despite the defeat, Blackhawk saw an underclassman step up: Aubree Hupp scored 15 points along with five rebounds. The contest was Hupp's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Ava Davis was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Blackhawk struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
New Castle's record is now 0-5. Blackhawk's record is now 6-2.
New Castle took a serious blow against Blackhawk in their previous matchup back in February of 2022, falling 67-21. Can New Castle avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
