Maize South is 2-7 against Maize since October of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Mavericks will venture away from home to challenge the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
As a matter of fact, Maize South put up the most points they have all season on Friday. They blew past Arkansas City 56-21. The game was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Mavericks had established a 21-point advantage.

It was another big night for Reign Illian, who threw for 371 yards and six TDs while completing 77.8% of his passes, and also rushed for 65 yards and a pair of scores. A healthy portion of Illian's aerial production (146 yards to be exact) went to Stratten Ebers, who also brought in three receiving touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Maize put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed past Haysville Campus to the tune of 53-9. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Eagles' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas football rankings (they are ranked fourth, while the Colts are ranked 118th).
Maize South better keep an eye on Brayden Myovela. He was instrumental in Maize's win, rushing for 128 yards and one touchdown on only six carries, while also throwing for 151 yards and three TDs while completing 78.6% of his passes. Myovela's longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Another player making a difference was Malachi Leichner, who picked up 48 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Maize didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. Brodie Jep Jarvis picked up that interception and then proceeded to rub salt in the wound by taking it back the other way for a touchdown. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Maize South's record is now 4-1. As for Maize, their record now sits at 5-0.
Maize South might still be hurting after the 55-30 loss they got from Maize when the teams last played back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Myovela, who rushed for 98 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 12 carries, and also threw for 185 yards and two TDs on only 17 passes. Now that the Mavericks know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
