The Eureka Wildcats will challenge the Parkway Central Colts at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. Eureka will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
On Tuesday, Eureka got the win against Rockwood Summit by a conclusive 11-1. Considering the Wildcats have won six contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Kayleigh Niles was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 2-for-3. Maddie Rakey was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.
Eureka was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .417. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Parkway Central fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Lafayette on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lancers. The Colts have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Marlee Williamson spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and seven unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Zoe Mitchell was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base marked the first that she has snagged this season. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Lewis, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Parkway Central's defeat dropped their record down to 12-4. As for Eureka, their win bumped their record up to 10-2.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Eureka hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.6 home runs per game. However, it's not like Parkway Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Eureka was able to grind out a solid victory over Parkway Central in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, winning 7-3. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
