Gabrielino is 8-2 against Marshall since January of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Gabrielino Eagles will be playing at home against the Marshall Eagles at 5:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Gabrielino posted their biggest victory since December 15, 2023 on Friday. Everything went their way against Arroyo as Gabrielino made off with a 50-24 win. Given Gabrielino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 381st, while Arroyo is ranked 871st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Gabrielino to victory, but perhaps none more so than Paris Ngeam, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Ngeam continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Sarah Banh, who scored eight points along with five assists and four steals.
Meanwhile, Marshall entered their tilt with Mountain View with four consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with five. Marshall blew past Mountain View 55-10 at home.
Marshall's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Destiny Ihiaso, who scored ten points along with five rebounds, and Kaitlan Sakuma, who scored nine points along with five assists and three steals. Madelyn Degooyer was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Gabrielino pushed their record up to 11-7 with that victory, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season. They've been dominating during the games in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 35.1 points. As for Marshall, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season.
Wednesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Gabrielino have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 24.1 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Marshall, though, as they've been averaging only 32.6 rebounds per game. Given Gabrielino's sizeable advantage in that area, Marshall will need to find a way to close that gap.
Gabrielino was able to grind out a solid win over Marshall in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, winning 50-39. Will Gabrielino repeat their success, or does Marshall have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
