After flying high against the Mapletown Maples last Thursday, the Monessen Greyhounds came back down to earth. Monessen took a 47-35 hit to the loss column at the hands of Chartiers-Houston on Friday. If Monessen hoped to take revenge for the 43-23 defeat against they when the teams met, then they were left disappointed.
Monessen lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being MyAsia Majors, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Another player making a difference was Avanti Stitch, who scored five points along with seven rebounds.
Even though they lost, Monessen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Chartiers-Houston only pulled down ten offensive rebounds.
Chartiers-Houston found their leader in underclassman Amelia Brose, who scored 16 points along with six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Capozzoli, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Monessen's defeat dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Chartiers-Houston, they pushed their record up to 9-4 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Monessen will square off against Westinghouse at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. As for Chartiers-Houston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carmichaels at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Carmichaels will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 625th, while Chartiers-Houston is ranked 234th).
