The Hughesville Spartans will be playing at home against the South Williamsport Mountaineers at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Even though Hughesville has not done well against Mount Carmel recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Hughesville came out on top against Mount Carmel by a score of 53-40. Given Hughesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 67th, while Mount Carmel is ranked 272nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Ava Snyder, who scored 16 points along with five assists and two steals. Another player making a difference was Maddie Smith, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, South Williamsport's four-game losing streak came to an end on Saturday. They walked away with a 50-39 win over Benton.
South Williamsport's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Abby Akers, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Akers is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. Ella Moore was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with seven steals.
Hughesville pushed their record up to 12-2 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 58.3 points per game. As for South Williamsport, their victory bumped their record up to 3-7.
Keep an eye on the arc in Wednesday's match: Hughesville have been dynamite from deep this season, having made 39.9% of their threes per game. It's a different story for South Williamsport, though, as they've only made 23.3% of their threes per game this season. Given Hughesville's sizeable advantage in that area, South Williamsport will need to find a way to close that gap.
