Van Nuys has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Sylmar Spartans at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Van Nuys' defense has only allowed 29.8 points per game this season, so the Spartans' offense will have their work cut out for them.
In what's become a running theme this season, Van Nuys gave their fans yet another huge victory on Wednesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Panorama 66-15 at home. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 49-6.
Sylmar has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They suffered a rough 67-41 loss at the hands of Crossroads on Saturday. While losing is never fun, Sylmar can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 471st, while the Roadrunners are ranked 228th).
Despite the defeat, Sylmar got a solid performance out of Mia Ceja, who scored 28 points. Another player making a difference was Isabella Gonzalez, who scored eight points.
Van Nuys' victory bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Sylmar, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-7.
Van Nuys took their win against the Spartans when the teams last played back in January by a conclusive 61-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for Van Nuys since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
