The River City Raiders will head out on the road to square off against the Bradshaw Christian Pride at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. River City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
The scorekeeper got an easy start on Thursday as neither River City nor Pioneer made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Raiders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Patriots. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Raiders have posted since February 24th.
River City saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zach Scorza, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double. Another was Hayden Onatanian, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Bradshaw Christian entered their tilt with Liberty Ranch on Thursday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They put the hurt on the Hawks with a sharp 8-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pride, who have now won 15 contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Chase Tidwell looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Bradshaw Christian let Jake Johnson and Landon Carter run wild. Johnson went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple, while Carter went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave Carter a new career-high. Ethan Rickert was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI.
Bradshaw Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive games.
Bradshaw Christian pushed their record up to 19-2 with the win, which was their 24th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for River City, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-9 record this season.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. River City has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Bradshaw Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
