The Don Lugo Conquistadores will head out on the road to face off against the Azusa Aztecs at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Azusa took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Don Lugo, who comes in off a win.
Don Lugo's three-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They walked away with a 53-41 victory over Charter Oak.
Don Lugo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Sarah Magadan, who scored 23 points along with 4 steals. That makes it six consecutive games in which Magadan has scored at least 25% of Don Lugo's points. Another player making a difference was Issabela Medina, who scored 8 points along with 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 12-12 at halftime, Azusa was not quite St. Lucy's equal in the second half on Tuesday. Azusa took a 34-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Lucy's.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Lilliana Maldonado, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 steals. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Ruby Untoria was another key contributor, scoring 6 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
Diamond Ranch's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Don Lugo's loss dropped theirs to 2-3.
Keep an eye on the arc in Thursday's game: Don Lugo have made nailing deep shots look easy this year this season, having only averaged 4.7 threes per game. It's a different story for Azusa, though, as they've been averaging only 2.9 per game. Given Don Lugo's sizeable advantage in that area, Azusa will need to find a way to close that gap.
