Winning is just a little bit easier when you work as a team to rack up seven more assists than your opponent, a fact the McGuffey Highlanders proved on Saturday. They blew past Mapletown 63-22 on the road. With that win, McGuffey brought their scoring average up to 52 points per game.
Taylor Schumacher had a dynamite game for McGuffey, scoring 28 points along with six rebounds and five steals. Another player making a difference was Alexis Ewig, who scored 12 points along with five assists and five rebounds.
Mapletown lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Makenna Lotspeich, who scored six points along with four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Isabella Garnek, who scored two points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
The victory makes it two in a row for McGuffey and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Mapletown, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.
McGuffey will head out on the road to face off against Uniontown at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Uniontown will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 224th, while McGuffey is ranked 39th). As for Mapletown, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Bethlehem Center at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
