Crawford hasn't had much luck against Mount Miguel recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Colts will head out on the road to face off against the Matadors at 9:00 a.m. Crawford is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Crawford took a six-run loss the last time they faced off against High Tech SD, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Colts had just enough and edged out the Storm 10-8. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Colts have posted since February 26th.
Jesse Altamirano Verdin made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off five hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Abbel Martinez, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one double, and one RBI. Abraham Carillo-Ceron was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They lost 23-0 to Steele Canyon.
Mount Miguel saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Braylon Cardwell, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Crawford's record is now 10-11. As for Mount Miguel, their loss dropped their record down to 7-13.
Mount Miguel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Crawford has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10 hits per game. It's a different story for Mount Miguel, though, as they've been averaging 9.8 hits. Given Crawford's sizable advantage in that area, the Matadors will need to find a way to close that gap.
Crawford suffered a grim 15-1 defeat to Mount Miguel in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can the Colts avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
