Lakewood extended their postseason success on Saturday against Xavier Prep. They strolled past the Saints with points to spare, taking the game 68-50. Given Lakewood's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 80th, while Xavier Prep is ranked 246th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lakewood relied on the efforts of Cristina Jones, who dropped a triple-double on 26 points, 19 rebounds, and ten steals, and Nyemah King, who dropped a double-double on 36 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which King has scored at least a third of Lakewood's points. Nyla Hankins was another key contributor, scoring three points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Meanwhile, Beckman earned a 54-42 win over Los Alamitos on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back wins for Beckman.
Lakewood's record is now 25-5. As for Beckman, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a nice bump to their 20-8 record this season.
Lakewood and Beckman were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in December of 2014, but Lakewood came up empty-handed after a 51-50 defeat. Can Lakewood avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
