Cortez not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since March 31, 2025 (when they won 21-1). They blew past South Mountain 21-14. The Colts haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Kriztian Visuet, who got on base in five of his six plate appearances with four runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2025. Alexander Medinilla Pereira was another key player, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with two RBI.
Tonopah Valley hit Shadow Mountain with a four-run second inning on Saturday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Matadors fell 7-2 to the Phoenix.
Shadow Mountain saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was William Gleason, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double. Brody Wiley also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Cortez's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Shadow Mountain, they now have a losing record of 1-2-1.
Shadow Mountain's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Tuesday. Cortez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.3 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Shadow Mountain, though, as they've been averaging only 3.5 strikeouts. Will Cortez keep running through batters, or will the Matadors buck the trend?
