William Floyd can attribute much of their success to Kayla Gilmore, who scored 18 points along with two steals, and Shy Hawkins, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Gilmore is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Meyer, who scored three points along with five rebounds.
Ward Melville's loss dropped their record down to 1-1. As for William Floyd, their win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-1.
Ward Melville skirted past William Floyd 45-42 when the teams last played back in December of 2023. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Gilmore, who scored 23 points along with seven steals and five rebounds.
