The Chaparral Wolverines will head out to challenge the Lakewood Tigers at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. Chaparral is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season.
Chaparral hadn't beaten Ralston Valley on the road since October 24, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them on Saturday. The Wolverines walked away with a 9-6 win over the Mustangs. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolverines.
Grace Carpenter spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and three unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up six Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Stevie Alvarado, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. Keegan Freitas also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Chaparral kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 8-2 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Lakewood faced Columbine in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. The Tigers lost 14-4 to the Rebels. The Tigers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lakewood got a big performance out of Alanni Maddux, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Elena Borjas was another key player, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Lakewood's defeat dropped their record down to 16-7. As for Chaparral, their record is now 13-10.
Lakewood's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chaparral has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9 hits per game. It's a different story for Lakewood, though, as they've been averaging 10 hits. Given Chaparral's sizable advantage in that area, the Tigers will need to find a way to close that gap.
