In what's become a running theme this season, the Santa Paula Cardinals gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They really took it to Malibu for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-27 win at home. The win was familiar territory for Santa Paula who now have seven in a row.
Santa Paula found their leader in underclassman Aryanna Lopez, who scored 29 points along with three steals. Lopez has been hot recently, having posted 16 or more points the last seven times she's played. Alyse Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with seven steals and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Malibu lost, one person who can't be blamed is Casey Ovsiowitz. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 13 points and 11 rebounds. Ovsiowitz hasn't dropped below nine rebounds for three straight games.
Santa Paula pushed their record up to 17-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Malibu, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Santa Paula will square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Carpinteria will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. Malibu is on the road again on Monday and plays the Flashes at 7:00 p.m. on January 29th. Fillmore comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last four games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
