Wayne City hasn't had much luck against Mt. Carmel recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Indians will welcome the Aces at 4:30 p.m. Wayne City is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Fairfield hit Wayne City with a five-run seventh inning on Thursday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Indians fell 9-4 to the Mules.
Dawson Wood put in work no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.
Wood wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rhett Staley, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Mt. Carmel hadn't done well against North Posey recently (they were 0-5 in their previous five matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. The Aces walked away with an 8-4 win over the Vikings.
Like Wayne City, Mt. Carmel also got a great game from a two-way player: Asher Coston. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. What's more, Coston posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in May of 2025. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on River Deisher, who went 3-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2025. Another player making a difference was Jayden Smith, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
The victory got Mt. Carmel back to even at 4-4. As for Wayne City, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-3-1.
Wayne City might still be hurting after the 11-1 loss they got from Mt. Carmel in their previous meeting back in April of 2025. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other baseball content.
