Soccer Game Preview: Valley View vs. Hillcrest

Valley View is 3-0 against Hillcrest since December of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Valley View Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Hillcrest Trojans at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Valley View has three straight victories, Hillcrest has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the pitch.

Valley View's defense heads into the match hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They won by a goal and slipped past Liberty 1-0. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 48th, while the Bison are ranked 494th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, while it was all tied up 0-0 at halftime, Hillcrest was not quite Canyon Springs' equal in the second half on Tuesday. They fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 1-0. That's two games in a row now that the Trojans have lost by just one goal.

Valley View's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-0-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 31 goals over those eight games. As for Hillcrest, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8-3.

Valley View beat Hillcrest by a goal when the teams last played back in December of 2019, winning 1-0. Will Valley View repeat their success, or does Hillcrest have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
