Even though Wabasso scored an imposing 57 points on Tuesday, Springfield still came out on top. Springfield took their match at home with ease, bagging a 90-57 victory over Wabasso. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Springfield has posted yet this season.
Brayden Sturm was his usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with six rebounds and two steals. He also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Lucas Milbrath, who scored 13 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
Meanwhile, Sleepy Eye came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with eight straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart 78-51 at home. Given Sleepy Eye's advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota basketball rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Buffalo Lake-Hector-Stewart is ranked 399th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Springfield pushed their record up to 6-6 with that win, which was their third straight at home. They've been dominating during the contests in that stretch too, as they've won by an average of 39.67 points. As for Sleepy Eye, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.
Springfield was able to grind out a solid win over Sleepy Eye in their previous matchup back in January of 2023, winning 59-47. Does Springfield have another victory up their sleeve, or will Sleepy Eye turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
