Shasta hasn't had much luck against Chico recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Wolves will be playing at home against the Panthers at 2:00 p.m. The last four games Shasta has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
Things were looking good for Shasta after they put the first runs on the board on Friday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They fell just short of Enterprise by a score of 4-3. That's two games in a row now that the Wolves have lost by just one run.
Jaydon Oliver was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Shasta saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ty Jones, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Chico strolled into their game on Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Red Bluff, sneaking past 7-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since May 18, 2024.
The team relied heavily on Jaxon Tweedt, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.
Chico kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Red Bluff only managed six hits.
Shasta's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Chico, they pushed their record up to 13-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Tuesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Shasta hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .329. However, it's not like Chico struggles in that department as they've averaged .365. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Shasta couldn't quite finish off Chico in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Wolves avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
