The Cornerstone Christian Cougars put another one in the bag on Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 74-29 win over Contra Costa Christian. Given Cornerstone Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 66th, while Contra Costa Christian is ranked 818th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cornerstone Christian's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mecca Alexander, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and three steals. Those seven assists set a new season-high mark for Alexander. Another player making a difference was Pamela-Joyce Allen, who scored 13 points along with five assists and five steals.
Cornerstone Christian pushed their record up to 9-0 with that win, which was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.3 points per game. As for Contra Costa Christian, they have fallen quite a ways from their 19-5 record last season and are now at 2-4.
Cornerstone Christian will be staying on the road on Saturday to face off against Priory at 1:00 p.m. on December 16th. Priory is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. Contra Costa Christian won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against California School for the Deaf at 5:30 p.m. on December 13th. California School for the Deaf's defense has only allowed 29.2 points per game this season, so Contra Costa Christian's offense will have their work cut out for Contra Costa Christian.
