The Downey Knights managed to keep up with the Central Catholic Raiders until halftime on Tuesday, but things quickly went downhill from there. Downey ended up on the wrong side of a tough 52-28 walloping at the hands of Central Catholic. Downey was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Central Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2021.
Downey's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zadie Carraway,, who scored 7 points along with 7 rebounds.
Central Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Taryn Calderon led the charge by scoring 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Allie Abbate, who scored 12 points.
Downey's defeat dropped their record down to 2-1. As for Central Catholic, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Downey will head out on the road to face off against Ripon at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Central Catholic, they will square off against Bret Harte at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
