Marin Catholic extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping them down to 9-4. They came up short against the Berkeley Yellowjackets, falling 11-1. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Wildcats, who until this contest were averaging 3.38 runs allowed.
Marin Catholic got a good showing from Connor Grant, who pitched 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, Luke Martin made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one home run.
As for Berkeley, the win (which was their 13th in a row) raised their record to 14-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.
On Berkeley's side, Quinton Hill was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Hill has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Akanni Owodunni, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in doubles (two). Another player making a difference was Miles Mino, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Looking ahead, Marin Catholic will take on Saint Mary's at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Wildcats' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 7.2 runs per game this season. As for Berkeley, they will square off against Castro Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yellowjackets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Trojans have averaged an impressive 9.2 runs per game this season.
