Bishop dropped their record down to 16-9-1 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 7-2 to the Santa Fe Christian Eagles. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Knights couldn't push the score so high this time.
Jackson Binn was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Henry Armstrong made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with one home run.
As for Santa Fe Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-12. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.
On Santa Fe Christian's side, Colin Roche made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Roche is becoming a predictor of Santa Fe Christian's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 5-1 (and 8-11 when he doesn't). Roche was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Santa Fe Christian got a great performance from Riley Nelson as he tossed five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. What's more, Nelson posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Jackson Noonan, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Santa Fe Christian is undefeated when Noonan posts two or more runs, but 10-12 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Sam Carney, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
While Bishop's had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
