The Calvary Saints posted their closest victory yet this season on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 58-55 victory over Litchfield. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Calvary found their leader in underclassman Luke Blackford, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 11 rebounds. Blackford is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Connor Brown, who scored 12 points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
When it comes to explaining why Litchfield lost, one person who can't be blamed is Aj Odle. Despite the final result, he scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Odle has scored all season. Ethan Saathoff was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Litchfield struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Calvary pulled down 12 offensive rebounds.
Calvary is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 16-6 record this season. As for Litchfield, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-10 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Calvary will take on Lutheran at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Lutheran is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Litchfield, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Carlinville at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Carlinville focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
