Wasco is 0-10 against Shafter since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Wasco Tigers will be playing in front of their home fans against the Shafter Generals at 6:15 p.m. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Wasco has struggled recently with six defeats in a row, while Shafter will arrive with seven straight wins.
On Tuesday, things could have been worse for Wasco, but they could have been a whole lot better as they took a 62-48 loss to Taft. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wasco in their matchups with Taft: they've now lost eight in a row.
Despite the loss, Wasco saw an underclassman step up: Camila Castillo (JV) scored 26 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Castillo (JV) has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Cassandra Evangelista, who scored six points along with two steals.
In what's become a running theme this season, Shafter gave their fans yet another huge victory on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Kennedy 56-28 at home. Given Shafter's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 231st, while Kennedy is ranked 965th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Wasco bumped their record down to 3-16 with that loss, which was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Shafter, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season.
Wasco was dealt a bruising 67-26 defeat at the hands of Shafter when the teams last played back in February of 2023. Thankfully for Wasco, Ariana Vega (who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 15 rebounds) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
