The North Star Cougars entered their tilt with the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Everything went North Star's way against Claysburg-Kimmel on Friday as North Star made off with a 62-37 victory. With North Star ahead 32-10 at the half, the match was all but over already.
North Star's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Andy Retassie, who scored 13 points along with nine assists and six rebounds. Retassie is absolutely dominating the steal category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Weimer, who scored 18 points along with three steals.
Claysburg-Kimmel lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Cory Walter, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and three blocks. Those 15 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Elias Ritchey was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
North Star is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they bumped their record down to 6-5 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road.
North Star will be playing at home against Meyersdale at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Meyersdale will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 712th, while North Star is ranked 206th). As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they will head out on the road to face off against Northern Bedford County at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Northern Bedford County has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 8.
