Hilmar is 8-1 against Le Grand since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hilmar Yellowjackets will welcome the Le Grand Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. Hilmar will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
Hilmar proved they can win big on Monday (they won by nine) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Ceres 3-2. The three-run effort marked the Yellowjackets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Marlin Kindberg tossed a big game, pitching six innings while giving up just two earned runs off seven hits. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Labno, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Le Grand had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against Orestimba by a score of 5-2 last Wednesday.
Diego Martinez made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out 11 batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. Martinez was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing three bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Johnathan Benavidez, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Le Grand always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orestimba only posted an OBP of .269.
Hilmar's victory bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Le Grand, their win bumped their record up to 1-0.
Everything went Hilmar's way against Le Grand in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Hilmar made off with a 12-0 victory. Will Hilmar repeat their success, or does Le Grand have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
