Lakeside has gone a perfect 3-0 against Southwest DeKalb recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Lakeside Vikings will square off against the Southwest DeKalb Panthers at 2:00 p.m. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Monday, Lakeside earned a 7-2 win over Oglethorpe County.
Rory Lichtman and Noah Hathaway dominated on the mound. Lichtman pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits, while Hathaway pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. What's more, Hathaway also gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jihad Guy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four runs. Jorge Montano was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, Southwest DeKalb got the win against Morrow on Monday by a conclusive 11-1.
Kameron Scott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Scott was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases. Scott is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's stolen at least one every time he's taken the field this season.
In other batting news, Desmond McCord was incredible, going 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Daejon Jones, who went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI.
Southwest DeKalb always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .548. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Morrow only posted an OBP of .286.
Southwest DeKalb now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Lakeside, their victory (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.
Everything went Lakeside's way against Southwest DeKalb when the teams last played back in April of 2022, as Lakeside made off with an 8-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Lakeside since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
