Winning is just a little bit easier when your three-point shooting is a whole 22% better than the opposition, a fact the Freedom Eagles proved on Saturday. It was close, but they ultimately received the gift of a 47-45 win from a begrudging Eaglessquad. The win was all the more spectacular given their disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 121st in Virginia, while Georgetown Day is ranked fifth in District of Columbia).
Freedom's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Keilana Johnson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Those 13 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Keilani Johnson, who scored seven points along with six rebounds.
Georgetown Day's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Madisyn Moore, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds. Moore scored a full 44.4% of Georgetown Day's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Cai Roberson was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six rebounds and three steals.
The win makes it two in a row for Freedom and bumps their season record up to 3-4. As for Georgetown Day, their loss dropped their record down to 6-2.
Freedom will be home for the holidays to greet Hylton at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hylton is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses. Georgetown Day won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Norfolk Christian at 12:00 p.m. on December 17th. Norfolk Christian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53.4 points per game.
