Bishop Hendricken and La Salle Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2016, but likely not for long. The Hawks will challenge the Rams at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Bishop Hendricken 1.6, La Salle Academy 3.6) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Bishop Hendricken is headed into the contest with an undefeated record on the line, something Lincoln almost spoiled on Tuesday. The Hawks never let the Lions get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Those one runs were actually the fewest the Hawks have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
Bishop Hendricken saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Edgar Rodriguez, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, La Salle Academy faced Coventry in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams put the hurt on the Oakers with a sharp 13-7 win. The victory continues a trend for the Rams in their matchups with the Oakers: they've now won five in a row.
Thomas Welsh made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Welsh was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one double. Those hits marked the first that he has got this season.
In other pitching news, Matt Destefanis looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, La Salle Academy got a massive performance out of Axel Dasilva, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That home run was Dasilva's first of the season. Brady Collins was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base.
La Salle Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .565. The last time their OBP was this high was back in April of 2024.
Bishop Hendricken's win was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 8-0-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.2 runs over those games. As for La Salle Academy, their record is now 6-2.
Bishop Hendricken was able to grind out a solid win over La Salle Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, winning 9-6. Do the Hawks have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Rams turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
