La Jolla Country Day is on a three-game streak of home wins, while Bishop is on a four-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Torreys will host the Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (La Jolla Country Day 3.6, Bishop's 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
While La Jolla Country Day's victory against Francis Parker wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Torreys had just enough and edged out the Lancers 5-3. The Torreys haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.
Matthew Onaitis tossed a big game, tossing 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ryder Tootell, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Rock, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and one run.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Bishop's and Maranatha Christian meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Knights put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 16-3 victory. Considering the Knights have won five matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Clyde Kates made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Kates was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Clay Peckham looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Bishop's got a massive performance out of Kyle Rippel, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Another player making a difference was Henry Armstrong, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and two RBI.
Bishop's always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Maranatha Christian only posted an OBP of .344.
Bishop's has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for La Jolla Country Day, their victory bumped their record up to 10-8.
Everything went La Jolla Country Day's way against Bishop's in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as La Jolla Country Day made off with an 8-0 win. Do the Torreys have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Knights turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
