Baseball Recap: St. Joseph Academy Extends Winning Streak to Four

St. Joseph Academy got themselves on the board against Matanzas on Tuesday, but Matanzas never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Matanzas Pirates with a sharp 11-0 win. The Flashes might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three matchups by ten runs or more this season.

St. Joseph Academy got a great performance from Neil Gornto as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Gornto has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, St. Joseph Academy let Eli Robshaw and Dayton Taylor run wild. Robshaw scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 3-for-3, while Taylor scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. The dominant performance gave Robshaw a new career-high in runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Willis, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.

St. Joseph Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .594. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Matanzas only posted an OBP of .250.

The victory was the fourth in a row for St. Joseph Academy, bringing their record for this year to 7-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Matanzas, they dropped their record down to 0-9 with the loss, which was their fifth straight at home.

Looking ahead, St. Joseph Academy will square off against Fletcher at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Matanzas, they will face off against Interlachen at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Matanzas has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
