The Southwest Virginia Academy Conquerors's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They fell 45-38 to New Covenant. Southwest Virginia Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Gryphons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January.
Brielle Walker was her usual excellent self, scoring 28 points along with eight rebounds and two steals for New Covenant. Walker has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Alicia Kenny was another key contributor, scoring two points along with 11 rebounds and three steals.
Southwest Virginia Academy's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 6-8. As for New Covenant, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Southwest Virginia Academy and the Chiefs will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 8th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Carlisle presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Conquerors in Virginia (the Chiefs are ranked 52nd, while the Conquerors are ranked 262nd). As for New Covenant, they will be playing at home against the Crusaders at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Temple Christian is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road.
