Noel Reta and Carlos Montes were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Reta tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Montes struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Those eight strikeouts gave him a new career-high. At bat, Reta went a perfect 4-for-4 with three stolen bases, four runs, and five RBI, while Montes went 3-for-5 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Reta is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Raymondville got a massive performance out of Justin Rodriguez, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Rodriguez continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Diego Villegas, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI.
As for Progreso, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-12 record this season. Those losses can't be blamed on the team's hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.1 runs over those games.
On Progreso's side, they saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ismael Estrada, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base. Martin Garcia Jr. also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Raymondville wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 10-4 win against Premont on the 11th. As for Progreso, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Rio Hondo at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Red Ants' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 6.3 runs per game this season.
