Arroyo is 6-1 against Mt. Eden since April of 2015 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Dons will head out on the road to face off against the Monarchs at 4:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
As a matter of fact, Arroyo put up the most runs they have all season on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Tennyson a 29-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Dons in their matchups with the Lancers: they've now won six in a row.
Christian Salling made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Michael Morgan was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and one double. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high. Jered Montenegro also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Arroyo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 12.2.
Mt. Eden came out on top against San Lorenzo on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run second inning. The Monarchs blew past the Grizzlies 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Monarchs, who have now won seven games by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Arroyo, Mt. Eden also got a great game from a two-way player: Jayden Schafer. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Schafer has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cristian Alvarenga, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases and two runs. Mt. Eden is undefeated when Alvarenga posts two or more runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Mateo Romo was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Mt. Eden is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 11-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Arroyo, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Arroyo couldn't quite get it done against Mt. Eden in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 3-0. Can the Dons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
