Softball Recap: Blue River Takes a Loss

Blue River dropped down to 11-5 on Thursday, ending the team's three-game streak of wins. They fell just short of the North Bend Central Tigers by a score of 7-6. Blue River was not able to repeat the success they had when they faced North Bend Central earlier this season, when they won 8-0.

Danica Watts was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Olivia Adams was another key player, earning one RBI, one run, and one stolen base.

As for North Bend Central, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-6 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.33 runs across that stretch.

On North Bend Central's side, Emma Rangeloff was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off ten hits. Rangeloff has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Samantha Cummings was incredible, going 2-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Pyper Daugherty, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Blue River will face off against Fillmore Central at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. As for North Bend Central, they will square off against Wayne on Monday.
