The Chestnut Ridge Lions will be playing in front of their home fans against the Central Cambria Red Devils at 7:15 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Chestnut Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.
Last Friday, Chestnut Ridge came up short against Bishop McCort and fell 52-44. While losing is never fun, Chestnut Ridge can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 196th, while Bishop McCort is ranked 11th).
Despite their loss, Chestnut Ridge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Isabella Hillegass, who scored 20 points along with nine rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Hillegass has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlie Weaver, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five assists.
Meanwhile, Central Cambria strolled past Huntingdon with points to spare last Friday, taking the game 56-38. The win was just what Central Cambria needed coming off of a 79-58 defeat in their prior matchup.
Chestnut Ridge's loss was their fourth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 7-5. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.3 points per game. As for Central Cambria, their win bumped their record up to 7-5.
Everything came up roses for Chestnut Ridge against Central Cambria when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as the team secured a 57-26 victory. Does Chestnut Ridge have another victory up their sleeve, or will Central Cambria turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
