Marshall extended their losing streak to six on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-6. They lost 15-4 to the Western Christian Fighting Lancers. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Fighting Lancers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2025.
Eli Macias was cooking despite his team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Kaden Mullins also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
As for Western Christian, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 6-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by seven runs or more this season.
On Western Christian's side, Dylan Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Martinez has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2025.
In other pitching news, Western Christian got a great performance from Jackson Thompson as he struck out ten batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). Thompson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, Western Christian let Josh Turner and Will Stradley run wild. Turner fired off three home runs and five RBI while going 3-for-5, while Stradley went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one triple. Western Christian is undefeated when Stradley posts two or more stolen bases, but 2-4 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of James Mack, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marshall will take on Santa Clarita Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Western Christian, they will challenge Pacifica Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Tritons' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Fighting Lancers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
