Athens is 10-0 against Canton since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Athens Wildcats will be playing at home against the Canton Warriors at 7:30 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Athens suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Wednesday. They were outmatched by Northeast Bradford on the road and fell 59-14. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Athens has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Canton's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Saturday after their third straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 46-25 loss at the hands of Williamson. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Canton has suffered against Williamson since February 6, 2017.
The match pitted two dominant players against one another in Kendall Kitchen and Taylor Rae Jones. Jones had a great game and scored 19 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Meanwhile, Kitchen did her best for the losing side, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and two steals.
Athens bumped their record down to 4-9 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 23.5 points per game. As for Canton, their loss ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-9.
Athens was able to grind out a solid victory over Canton in their previous meeting back in January of 2023, winning 41-34. Will Athens repeat their success, or does Canton have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
