Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for St. Joseph

St. Joseph waltzed into their contest on Friday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They came out on top against the Arroyo Grande Eagles by a score of 10-5. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 11-2 victory last Wednesday.

Jayson Rodriguez was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with three RBI and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Connor Chanley and Erik Furness did most of the damage at the plate: Chanley went 2-for-3 with one home run and three runs, while Furness went 1-for-2 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. Furness is on a roll when it comes to home runs, as he's now launched at least one in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Santana Covarrubias, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

St. Joseph hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Arroyo Grande struck out seven times.

St. Joseph's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-4. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Arroyo Grande, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-9 record this season.
