St. Thomas Academy is a perfect 10-0 against Two Rivers since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Cadets will head out on the road to challenge the Warriors at 6:30 p.m. St. Thomas Academy is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
On Friday, St. Thomas Academy humbled Hastings with a 48-13 victory. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Cadets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Minnesota football rankings (they are ranked ninth, while the Raiders are ranked 111th).
St. Thomas Academy's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Dominic Baez, who rushed for 156 yards and three touchdowns on only 12 carries, and Tristan Karl, who rushed for 71 yards and one TD on only seven carries. Baez's longest rush was for an impressive 51 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: St. Thomas Academy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 234 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 151 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to St. Thomas Academy's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Magnus Mehlhoff, Luke Mechtel, and Teddy Petschel, who each picked up one sack apiece. Todd Rogalski was another major factor on D, making six total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Two Rivers, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. Everything went their way against Mankato West on Friday as they made off with a 35-14 victory. That looming 35-14 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Warriors yet this season.
St. Thomas Academy's win bumped their record up to 6-0. As for Two Rivers, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
Everything came up roses for St. Thomas Academy against Two Rivers in their previous meeting back in October of 2023, as the squad secured a 47-14 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cadets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
