Gavin McElhinny was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Corvian Community: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 1-5 otherwise.
Meanwhile, Pine Lake Prep entered their tilt with Lake Norman Charter on Thursday with two consecutive wins , and they'll enter their next game with three. They were the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over the Knights. Considering the Pride have won four contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Trey Schubert made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That one hit allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. That stolen base was his first of the season.
In other pitching news, Carson Schroeder looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Dylan Brandt, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Alec Brown, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.
Pine Lake Prep pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Corvian Community, their record is now 4-6.
Corvian Community's speedy runners might be the difference in Friday's match. Corvian Community has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Pine Lake Prep, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Corvian Community continue to outrun the ball?
Corvian Community came up short against Pine Lake Prep in their previous meeting on Monday, falling 5-0. Can Corvian Community avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
