After a string of six wins, the Wilkes Central Eagles's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 73-67 hit to the loss column at the hands of North Surry. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wilkes Central in their matchups with North Surry: they've now lost seven in a row.
Wilkes Central lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Hunter Wyles, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that Wyles scored 15 or more points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyson Owens, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds.
Kam Mcknight was his usual excellent self, going 7 for 13 from beyond the arc en route to 32 points and 3 assists for North Surry. Mcknight also posted two blocks for the first time this season. Another player making a difference was Fisher Leftwich, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds.
Wilkes Central's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 6-1. As for North Surry, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wilkes Central will take on Starmount at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Starmount focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Tuesday. North Surry's road trip will continue as they head out to face Mount Tabor at 2:00 p.m. on December 19th. Mount Tabor presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than North Surry in North Carolina (Mount Tabor is ranked 80th, while North Surry is ranked 211th).
