Highland hasn't had much luck against Lake Central recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Trojans will square off against the Indians at 4:30 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.1 runs per game this season.
Highland's last matchup with Chesterton could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's game on Friday. Highland lost 16-1 to Chesterton.
Highland saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brent Woltzen, who went 1-for-2 with one run and one double.
Lake Central let Illiana Christian stack five runs on them in the fifth inning on Friday but luckily Lake Central prevailed anyway. The Indians came out on top against the Vikings by a score of 9-6. The victory continues a trend for the Indians in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won four in a row.
Anthony Sanchez looked comfortable as he tossed 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Keegan O'Bryan, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Victor Villegas also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Lake Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Illiana Christian only posted an OBP of .312.
Lake Central's record now sits at 15-8. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 11-11.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Saturday as neither team is afraid to steal. Highland has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Lake Central struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Highland came up short against Lake Central in their previous matchup back in May of 2022, falling 15-12. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
