Centura had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped down to 4-4 to make it four. They fell 5-2 to the Central City Bison. The Centurions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bison apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2024.
Calleigh Sundberg put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That stolen base was her first of the season.
Sundberg wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Emma Jacobs, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. Emma Parr also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As for Central City, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average this season.
On Central City's side, Payton Burbach spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on seven hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Juno Ryan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Emma Brandes was another key player, going 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
Coming up, Centura is taking a road trip to square off against Boone Central at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Central City, they will be taking part in a tournament against Beatrice at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. The Bison's pitchers better be ready for this one: the Orangemen have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
