The Morse Tigers will square off against the Mt. Carmel Sundevils at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Morse is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than the Sundevils in California (the Tigers are ranked 228th, while the Sundevils are ranked 869th).
Morse unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They received a tough blow as they fell 61-46 to Scripps Ranch. Morse has struggled against the Falcons recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Defeat or not, Morse got some senior leadership from Kyla Palpallatoc and Jayla White. Palpallatoc scored 17 points along with five assists, while White. scored 15 points along with two steals. White hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Belinda Diaz, who scored five points.
Meanwhile, you can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Mt. Carmel's strategy against the Bulldogs on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mt. Carmel blew the Bulldogs out of the water with a 65-24 final score. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 34-11.
Morse's defeat dropped their record down to 18-6. As for Mt. Carmel, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-17.
Things could have been worse for Morse, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 80-66 loss to the Sundevils in their previous meeting back in February of 2023. Can Morse avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
