Baseball Game Preview: Buhach Colony Thunder vs. Merced Bears

Buhach Colony is 8-2 against Merced since March of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Monday. The Thunder will host the Bears at 4:00 p.m. Merced took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Buhach Colony, who comes in off a win.

Buhach Colony is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Los Banos 15-7 on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Thunder as it spelled an end to their six-game losing streak.

Jacob Medina made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-5. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Ethan Quintana was incredible, going 2-for-5 with three stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Gatlyn Leard, who scored two runs while going 2-for-5.

Meanwhile, Merced was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 7-0 to Atwater. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Bears have suffered against the Falcons since April 27, 2022.

Merced saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trevan Kuhls, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base.

Merced's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Buhach Colony, their win bumped their record up to 4-13-1.
